Search by group size (first the group, then the date)

Updated on 2026-10-28

A group thinks differently from a couple: "we are ten, we need six bedrooms, we will adapt to the dates". With Search by group size, your booking widget gets a second tab for exactly that.

What the guest sees

  1. At the top of the widget there are two tabs: Search by date (the usual calendar, unchanged) and Search by group size.
  2. On that second tab the guest chooses the number of adults and children, optionally a minimum number of bedrooms, how long they stay and roughly when.
  3. They get a monthly calendar with every possible arrival day and the price from for each day. Two dots in the corner mean: that day only works with several units together.
  4. Tapping a day shows up to three options: one unit on its own, or a combination of units, with the number of beds, the bedrooms, the price and a suggestion to divide the group. If there are more, a line such as 3 more options for this day. appears below: tap it to see them all.
  5. Choose takes them to the usual step 2: dates and units are ready and the guests are already divided. From there they book as always.

The price in the calendar is the standard rate including the mandatory costs (for example the final cleaning). Rate options, extras and tourist tax follow in the next steps.

Turning it on

Search by group size is off by default. Turn it on in Settings → My property, section Booking page: behaviour, with the switch Search by group size in the booking widget. Below it you set:

  • At most this many units together: 1, 2 or 3 (empty = 3).
  • Tab when opening: Search by date (default) or Search by group size. A link with ?modus=groep, for example https://bedflow.eu/book/your-property?modus=groep, always opens on the group tab.
  • Larger groups: contact us above: above this number of guests the widget does not search but asks them to get in touch.
  • Order of the search results: Best choice (default): fewest homes first, then the lowest price. Or Following your own order of the homes: the order of your calendar, which you set with the Sort order of your room types and rooms.
  • Photo per unit in Search by group size (off by default): the options for an arrival day show the main photo of each unit. Rent and mandatory costs below the price and Hide the other units once one is chosen also work for the search; see The booking widget.

Search by group size cannot be combined with Group room types (for hotels with several rooms of one type) yet. If that is on, you cannot turn on the group search, and the other way round.

Which units may be combined?

You decide which units a group may rent together. In Settings → Room types, open a unit and fill in the Combination group under Physical features, for example the name of your estate. The widget offers units with the same combination group together. A unit without a combination group only appears on its own.

Fill in the Number of bedrooms in the same block. When a guest asks for a minimum number of bedrooms, the widget leaves out units without that number.

One search page across all your properties

If you have several properties in one account, for example an estate and a few separate villas, a group can search all of them at once on one page.

  1. Turn on Search by group size in at least two properties.
  2. In one of those properties, in the same section, turn on Search page across all your properties. It applies to your whole account.
  3. The address of the page is shown under the switch, for example https://bedflow.eu/book/your-account/groep. Link to it or embed it on your website, just like the normal booking module.

The guest sees one calendar with the price from across all your properties and can filter per location. Every option stays within one property: units of different properties never appear together, because a booking belongs to one property. Choose takes them to that property's booking page with the dates and units already filled in. Each property keeps its own rules: length of stay, changeover days, how far ahead and the contact limit.

On the search page one rule applies to all properties: the order and the title of the property the page runs on (the first property created with the search turned on). With your own order, the properties come in that fixed order, the same as the location buttons, and within each property the order of the homes. Even then, the options with the fewest homes come first.

Suggesting your other properties when this one is full

If your estate is fully booked for a group, the widget can suggest your other properties as an alternative, as you would otherwise do yourself by email.

  1. Turn on Search by group size in at least two properties of your account.
  2. In the property where guests search, turn on Show other properties when this one is full in the same section.

If the widget finds nothing in this property on a day, but does in another property, that day shows in another colour in the calendar, with the explanation Full here, but room in our other holiday homes. When the guest clicks it, they see the options in your other properties, with the name of the property. With Choose they go to the booking page of that property, with the dates and units already filled in. On days when this property has room itself, nothing changes. It is off by default.

How the widget searches

  • A unit fits when the group stays within its limits: the maximum number of guests, adults and children of the room type, with at least one adult per unit.
  • A combination never contains a unit that is not needed: for ten guests you will not see two large houses.
  • A combination room (for example "whole estate") never appears together with its own units.
  • Every unit must be free all nights and meet your restrictions: changeover days, minimum and maximum stay, closed arrival or departure days. These are the same rules as for normal bookings.
  • Best choice: options with the fewest units first, then the lowest price. The first one gets the Best choice label.
  • Own order: single homes first in the order of your calendar, then the combinations by their first home (then the second). The homes within a combination are also in your order. The Best choice label is not shown then: the first one is your choice, not a price recommendation.
  • Either way, the cheapest option of that day is always included, because that is the from-price in the calendar.

After the choice BedFlow checks everything again: if a unit has just been booked, the widget says so and the guest picks another day.
